While Darktable has a lot of nice niche features, from UX point of view it’s 20 years behind any of commercial offerings. If GIMP is like open source Photoshop, then Darktable is like open source Lightroom - both GIMP and Darktable are absolutely crap when it comes to UX, unless you mastered them for 10 years. Darktable should focus on some UX/UI GSOC-like project and figure out their usability to be considered useful.

I'd been trying to migrate from LR to RapidRaw, but it's been tough as most features are just trying to catch up to LR. DaVinci handles a lot of things better than LR from the start. Going to give it a go. Crossing my fingers

I use Lightroom Classic with the excellent Negative Lab Pro plug-in for converting film negatives, but I can’t stand Lightroom itself. I could easily see using this for post-conversion color grading.

Just this morning I was missing Aperture and mentioned it to my kids. I was organizing some pictures with Photos.app and adding a tag or removing from an album takes about 5 seconds for the UI to visually represent my change. I have a decently big library but certainly not anomalous. Aperture made it so fast to organize and deal with photos.

Resolve is only officially supported on Rocky Linux which is a rebuild of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Red Hat, Debian, and Arch based distributions do things a lot differently than each other. Rocky/RHEL are pretty much de facto standards for Linux in the high-end video production and VFX market so it doesn't make much sense for Blackmagic to spend development resources supporting other Linux distributions.

Amigo! If you're not a professional video editor but you have to, occasionally, make long videos shorter or just remove awkward silences, etc., the cut page is a godsend. You grab the knife tool, bim, bam, boom, you're done.

Photoshop itself, without ACR, is light years behind in color processing. It's a dinosaur at this point. It had only one remotely competent grading plugin (Firegrade), but it seems abandoned.

Name some color process that cannot be done in PS. I'm recommending PS for color grading to be precise.

Yes, it works with JPEG, HEIF, PNG, TIFF, AF, PSD, and several other still image formats.
