I am a reasonably long-time "coder" that waited way too long to actually get serious about becoming a job-ready software engineer. I would be looking for junior positions, but would bring more to the table than the average boot camp grad. As a polyglot ICT professional for nearly 40 years, I've analysed datasets with billions of rows, investigated code libraries with 300k lines of code, built event websites that handled 4 million hits in four days, set-up satellite ground stations in outback Australia, built mapping tools, tracked vehicles and bicycles via GPS, reverse engineered software and hardware, built solutions to scan thousands of bar-codes, tracked livestock, trained staff, written hundreds of technical articles and developed code in dozens of languages on as many platforms, interviewed hundreds of people, produced and presented hundreds of live radio programmes, presented on stage and I've run a consulting company for two decades.

I've been an award winning team leader, have travelled, speak English and Dutch and I'm always curious. I prefer Open Source, am an active radio amateur and podcaster and love to troubleshoot, solve problems and discover and document how things work.

I was most recently working remotely as a software engineer with a focus on marketing tech. I worked on revamping & unifying the email system at my previous company by implementing a custom API wrapper in Ruby that uses Salesforce Marketing Cloud's Transactional and Triggered Send APIs to send both types of emails from their Ruby on Rails monolith. Leveraging that API wrapper, I created an email scheduler & three separate email systems that helped drive customer engagement. I also moved their build pipeline, built around a 3rd party contractor's in-house software, from Google Cloud Platform to CircleCI and automated their unit and snapshot tests. Another major accomplishment of mine while working there was to help introduce React into the codebase. I was responsible for implementing most of the React pages, including 3 of the payment pages of the redesigned checkout flow, the profile and settings page, as well as the form component & its input components, which was the backbone to most of the forms.

On top of that, I was tasked to implement a service to send SMS to our customers, which was sent from an Apex class in Salesforce, and ran asynchronously using a job queue.
