Could a custom filter for uBlock solve the problem (if there's nothing useful on the header?

You might want to take some time off the internet, I can smell your liver from here. The internet sucks, it always sucked, most people don't know how to do anything properly, trends ruin everything else. It's always going to suck, most things do. Time to take a chill pill and learn to live with it.

I'm not sure what that means? Liver? Is that a drinking thing? I don't really drink so I dunno.

I don't agree. Changes in trends can start many ways and one of them is by tech people complaining to other tech people.

It wasn't originally possible to hijack the browser's scrolling function (or history). Just like the early days of GUIs and windowing systems: some people take those tools and make an absolute mess. If no one ever yells at them for it they and those around them won't learn to be ashamed of making messes.
