I'm not the parent but I experience sleep paralysis fairly regularly - maybe once or twice a month. It's happened enough times that I can usually recognise it and can either try to wake myself up or wait until I go back to sleep, so it's not particularly scary. Have you ever been checked for sleep apnea? Sleep paralysis is a common symptom.
I haven't actually. I feel like my previous girlfriend told me I was an extremely quiet sleeper so I don't think I have problems breathing when I'm asleep.
