If AIs get smarter but the code remains opaque, then eventually there may be no way for humans to verify it. That is not my experience at all. To be clear, that is they were bad and they have gotten better. I’m also pretty strict about plan-then-code, so maybe that helps. I realize it’s one anecdotal datapoint.

FWIW I've also had success getting AI to write readable code. I guess my point is that allowing it to write opaque code may leave room for unintended behavior.

Can they maintain it though? What's the biggest/longest running project you have where you don't look at the code?

That is of course the big question. Longest projects I have running are about 1.5 years old now and used daily by my coworkers. The projects got a huge rewrite when Opus came out.

Is this actually what all these horribly buggy "startups" speculate on with their horribly buggy products?

It is the only possible way out. The level of tech debt can only be paid by more agents. But seriously, it is an actual bet you can make and it isn’t crazy sounding to me. Build a world where you have an edge with future models and can survive today.

Find my exists for a reason. Idk when the last time I had my phone not on mute is. Years? How often do you hear ringtones in public anymore?

What's google search? The product as we know it is effectively dead. There is no future in which the URL bar isn't just an AI chat input. It's up to the model to search for you, if it decides that's the fastest way to an answer.

I literally pay for Kagi search, to keep the old school search experience. That will be my future and I’m happy with that

50K users isn't a lot. To me you're just one of those "bring the old Y back" users who will eventually forget that "the old Y" isn't worth it anymore.

Anyway, yes, surely "search" will exist the same way RSS exists.

The only reason it's a spaghetti mess is because it's not being prompted correctly by an expert.

Writing sufficiently detailed prompt sometimes takes more time than writing code by hand.

However, the latter is an exercise that lets you become an expert. The former – not at all.

Thanks! Our tracker is a good place to post the issue report and image: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/work_items (If you can, zip it beforehand, as sometimes metadata that causes problems gets stripped out when uploaded to the tracker)
