I definitely am on the opposite side when it comes to Tableau. After you get over the initial learning curve you start to realize that everything in Tableau when working with calculated fields is a workaround. If your data doesn't already look amazing going into Tableau you're in for a bad time.

Was a big fan of tableau and we use it in production. It's a wonderfully exploratory tool. But the real pain start when you have 50+ workbooks and the underlying data model MUST introduce breaking change for whatever reason. There is to my knowledge no way to automate edition of workbooks. You are in for GUI repetitive soul sucking task. Bonus pain if "workaround" are involved. (Just have a look at the support forum.…

Productivity Power Tools - pack of extensions

I love using Tableau. It has completely changed the way I analyze data -- things that would have taken me a minute or two in Excel takes literally seconds in Tableau.

What's Tableau's special secret to handling data? Is it doing table indexing, summary, and array manipulation in a smarter way compared to dumb Excel?

It's crazy how different opinions are on JIRA. I think it's the worst tool I'm forced to use - and have been - at all my dev jobs. It's slow, sluggish, the UX is horrible and it gets in my way. Suspected as much. Not just IT people — it’s quite a playground for process wonks, and I mean that as a bad thing. I do love JIRA but wish it would stay simple in practice where I work. Unfortunately not the case at my current job.

I wasn't aware of SumoLogic but at $2.5/GB ingested, they seem expensive. I understand that at TB a month of logs Elasticsearch stops being viable, but what made SumoLogic so great except the speed to warrant the cost?

Sumo Logic got three tiers depending on speed vs. cost. The cheapest one is at $0.11 / GB and allows searching on-demand.

Do you have some examples? I've used IntelliJ or variants of it (Clion primarily in more recent years) since ~2004 and rarely had any issues, but it's possible I'm missing some obvious things here.

Wow, never had this, I use IntelliJ (for java) many hours everyday with 2x4k@60Hz screens (both running with hidpi scaling so even more pixels than 2x4k) and it’s always running smoothly. Running MBP 16”.
