Strange, I can't seem to find the price of bandwidth when you exceed the included 1 TB.

#223This puts DigitalOcean in a tough spot. They aren't going after the top-tier get your hands dirty customers AWS usually caters to, and they aren't going after the no-tech skills audience of godaddy/bluehost/dreamhost etc. So now it becomes a marketing battle for the middle.

#224I'd love to give this a try for my mail server that is currently hosted on Linode. Half the price would be great. Does anyone have experience with how "clean" the AWS IP addresses are? I'd hate to switch to Lightsail and have to deal with deliverability and spam blacklist issues. I've been fortunate to have had zero issues on Linode.
I just ran a few of my IP's through http://www.anti-abuse.org/multi-rbl-check/ and didn't get any hits. It's likely luck of the draw.

This is exactly it. 5-6 years ago (I think), I signed up for an aws account under the "free" or educational or something tier. AWS was newish at the time, and I wanted to learn about it. Via some accidental clicking in the control panel (trying to get an IP address for the instance, I think?) I ended up getting a bill from them for over $100. Which, to me at the time, was a huge amount of money. It put me off of AWS…
That's exactly the reason I wouldn't sign-up for something "free" when I was required to give away my credit card details.

Infrastructure as code. Use the API the build machines from scratch on demand.
It can be a very powerful model if done well, or done poorly cost a lot for less performance.
I use Hetzner myself for my large projects but the machines were configured using the same scripts I practiced over and over again on DO.

Haha ok...I guess technically I'm wearing "over-ear" headphones right now. Hyper-X...pretty cheap gaming headset, extremely comfortable, no flashing led lights or other weird gamer features. Decent sound too.
This is a silly question, but do they go fully around the ear? I have bigger ears and a get a lot of discomfort from most headphones. I have a pair of Audio Technica ATH-A900X (with huge cans) at home, but I'm always hunting for a cheaper pair to carry around with me.
Yes, they fit around my ears nicely. I've always been uncomfortable with the padding touching my ears the way you describe. I'm pretty picky, but I've found the HyperX headset to be way more comfortable than some other, very expensive headsets that I've tried. I've had them for almost two years now and they've been very durable as well.

I don't think that actually holds up. There are certainly some people that want "ironclad guarantees", but the reality of cost here is pretty close: you pay $5/mo max for the server. The things that can cost more are either overages on bandwidth/dns (and here, 1TB of bandwidth on the low end is included, eliminating a lot of the flux from EC2), or things you choose to initiate, like snapshots. I am currently using Linode, but would move to AWS if they offer a cap. 2 years ago I signed up for the free AWS and forgot about it (didn't use it at all). Ended up costing ~60$ before I found out and since then I've avoided it.

Curious, why don't you compare with known "non-cloud" hosting companies too, that provide vps services, like ovh, hetzner, leaseweb, etc.? EDIT: Anyone cares to explain his reasons behind a downvote?
