I just bought a Thinkpad because my home's other Windows machine died. The laptop is ok in general , and I love the mate screen, but the black plastic body is just horrible. It feels as if it's going to break just by opening the screen. Does apple have some kind of patent for the aluminium body?

Aluminium is heavy, cold, dents and expensive. Plastic is better in most ways for a laptop shell.

Mainly just documenting their hardware would be good enough to bootstrap that. eh, not quite. for me the OS is the most important part, with great hardware being icing on the cake. I’m not knocking linux, but it’s not for everyone.

I guess working on bare metal was implied. Virtualization have always been useful but it's another use case. Asahi enable user to bypass MacOS entirely which I guess is the only satisfying way to use apple silicone for Linus Torvalds.

Apple keyboards are the same as Windows, they just have different labels. The ALT key is called "option". CTRL is "control" and the windows key is "command".

Cmd+C is actually more comfortable to me, as you use your thumb instead of pinky. My pinky is always fatigued after using a Win/Lin machine.
Shift + Arrow keys do select text, you must have something configured differently.
I don't remember what Ctrl + Arrow keys does on Win/Lin, assuming it's word boundaries that is Option + Arrow keys.
Overall my experience with Apple keyboard shortcuts is much more positive than on Window and Linux. On Windows it feels like they've run out of modifier keys due to locking the Windows key behind windows specific features, and Linux mostly just copied windows.

The Command key is not in the same place as the Windows key; the Command key neighbors the spacebar, whereas the Windows key is wedged between Alt and Ctrl.
Oh you're right. I use right cmd/right super so rarely that I never noticed, despite regularly using both types.
