#24Why should any company acquiesce to a contemptible organization that ruined the web with useless cookie nag screens and is hellbent on banning encryption? The EU has done severe damage to the security of the web by training users to click accept on nag screens like the EU-required cookie popups (83% click accept).
sure the EU is the problem of the web, no the horrible corporations sucking up every little piece of personal information they can to sell it. I feel so sorry for the suffering you have experiences while having to click "i accept", even when thats not even a requirement of the EU, just a sign of the horrible practices of the giant (mostly American) corporations.
The corporations can be evil and the government can also be incompetent and/or evil at the same time. It's not a dichotomy.

Apple does have some good counter arguments. Where there is data, there will be bad actors who want that data - and I trust Apple far more to behave than I trust some random shell company being run by some secret service. By definition, an AI assistant needs read-write access to all your data. We've seen enough reports of badly implemented AI here, we've seen enough scammers exploiting data troughs...

They do not. Per Apple's documentation, they run on Apple's Private Compute Cloud [1] - while part of Google's GCP, full confidentiality is guaranteed that even Apple itself is not able to access user data.
That's more of an effort than I see any single competitor even attempting.

It's funny someone takes an Apple statement at face value instead of reading it for exactly what it is: they asked to be excluded from the law that was introduced to prevent exactly what Apple is trying to do.
After being denied an exception (which would have made mockery of the law), they come out all passive aggressive how EU is "not constructive".
