SEEKING WORK | Los Angeles, CA or Remote

I have 5+ years of experience at early-stage startups, most recently at a legal tech startup I cofounded. I'm mostly back-end, but am comfortable writing front-end JavaScript/TypeScript. Happy to chat more about my background.

Currently building an app that uses LLMs to query NY State Court dockets and contributing to legal tech open source.

Rate: 30-50 USD per hour (I dislike hourly billing though, personally)

Technologies: Python, Django, React, TypeScript, Postgres, basic Docker. Have 1+ year of C# experience, but that was a while ago.

I have a PhD in computer engineering, focusing on operations research (OR). I specialize in consulting and advising on OR matters for startups. In short, I can translate a real-world problem into a mathematical model that can be solved via integer programming, constraint programming, or other optimization methods. My goal is to provide a production-ready solution for any type of problem you might have related to OR.

As a recent example, I've been contracted by a company to create a user-tunable, multi-objective optimization model for the automatic selection of indexes in Postgres databases. This tool will be available for their clients starting this fall.

SEEKING WORK - Netherlands - Remote-only

I'm a full-stack engineer looking for contract work.

I'm most experienced in PHP/Laravel and Javascript/Typescript/React, but am pretty tech-fluid.

Previously, I worked at Etsy (three years) and Trello (five years, both pre- and post-Atlassian acquisition).

Recent client projects include a Next.js site backed by a WordPress/GraphQL API and an MVP for a video recording and annotation app build with Laravel.

Resume: https://www.toptal.com/resume/gerard-o-neill A few work examples: https://grardb.com/work

My ideal project would be solo-shipping an MVP in the span of 2-4 weeks depending on the complexity, but I'm also happy to work on longer projects with other developers as well.

email: grardb@gmail.com

rate: $800/day - willing to go a bit lower if hired through Upwork, just so I can get out of the "0 jobs, 0 reviews" pit.
