Sadly, that's most social science these days (not methodologically sound nor reproducible).

But to draw these conclusions you'll need to understand a bit of math. Thankfully, bureaucrats are hard at work getting rid of advanced math classes and making sure this won't be taught at public schools [0] [1].

Perhaps your biases are showing, this is just "these are the methods we used, and this is how we calibrated them", which is a critical part of any kind of research.

I look at beach vollyball uniforms for men and women and it reminds of the armor used for female and male characters in games.

Sometimes, like swimming, the uniform is the way it is because its best suited for the sport. But other times... its sexism.

I can't see much difference with later periods.

Acosta is the man that made volleyball the hugely popular sport it is today on screen, of course he wanted teams to be fashionable and appealing to the audience, just like I want my F1 cars to look beautiful and aggressive and the pilots to be all around cool people with the winner vibe.

And that's why Formula-E it's not very popular: cars are ugly and slow and pilots are mostly former mid-low-never-won-a-race field drivers from other more important categories.

But if some team for any reason developed an uniform a bit less fashionable, but that gave even the slightest advantage in terms of performances, competitors would have copied them verbatim in the blink of an eye. The best way to be sex appealing is winning.

He brought in the mandatory high-cut bikini bottoms for the women beach players as was described in the NYT article and many others.
