#22Well… don't watch the news. The news are a business and they want your attention. That's how they make money. It's mostly fear mongering because that's what sells.

#23Violence, plagues, wars, disasters, etc. are as old as humans. The only difference is that news travels at the speed of light now, and it's a huge business that fights for your attention the same as everything else nowadays.
As many have already advised you in this thread, quit (or ration) the news and social media. At least be selective of what you choose to read/hear. You'll feel better.

#24You may need a break from the news. That helped me awhile. A lot of society's ills as you've identified them require legal and political solutions, not technological. A startup may address a subset of the issues, but most of the issues can mostly only be addressed in a timely manner by governments. Despite Paul Graham's and his ilk's proselytizing, startups aren't a silver bullet to the ills of the world. I'm afraid as far as climate change is concerned we're a bit late to the party. I'm not saying nothing can be done, but it's here. We should brace for impact.

#27Who said I have to deal with it? I will leave that to others. Just being honest. You are the second person with a popular post about trying to work at a company that is doing good, I am not knocking that down but this priority amuses me a bit. To me, my responsibility is to take care of myself and those near me first. I have thought of how to solve the big problems in thr world and it almost always boils down to requiring extreme violence and cruelty which I have no appetite for. I am not interested in feeling like something is changing or wasting my time or working for a for-profit company because they virtue signal well enough.

I think it tells a lot, but not that it's necessarily something new (in that we're devolving). The use of fear mongering is evident throughout history.
