The Canadian government is spewing gasoline and the truckers are holding the matches.

Yeah, seriously. What is up with all that tar sand oil ruining our environment from Canada? Build your own pipelines and don’t ruin our tribal land down south, please.

Earlier quoted context omitted.

I'm fairly ignorant of crypto, but wouldn't exchanges hold similar power?

Peer-to-peer cryptocurrencies do not need intermediates. For governance, one can use smart contracts. This is why things like ConstituionDAO can happen. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ConstitutionDAO If it’s good or not is another topic, but it is definitely possible to skip banks and other middlemen.

This Crypto bullshit has to stop -- ConstitutionDAO did not give ownership to its stake holders. It was a glorified IoU, a private fiat version of stock/equity into the so called Constitution copy. All the power was held by an LLC and two dudes.

The money should first go to Ottawa residents besieged and subjected to 24 hour honking, diesel fumes and noise from engines running through the night. Then there's revenue loss for the businesses forced to shut down and wage loss for their employees. Class Action Suit could rightfully clean out the GoFundMe.

Honk Honk

"the ultimate weapon against clown world is endless honking"

Is the money that was already donated still accessible? This doesn't sit well with me. I guess it's a private company, but damn.

It sounds like they froze everything as is. If they can't legally release the funds to they'd likely just refund the people who donated.

It surprises me to see GoFundMe bow to political pressure, when the platform is designed to fund people that are standing up against governments.

Where do you get the idea that the platform was designed to stand up to governments?

How dare Americans find a way to pay for medical treatment?!?

I'm not following the whole thing but i think part of the controversy is the person collecting the money is suspected to have run off with it or suspected to intend to run off with it, or something.

Regardless, i doubt people waving swastikas and demanding that democratic leaders be replaced with a dictatorship is exactly the type of "standing up to government" gofundme envisioned.

In the words of AOC ... "The whole point of protesting is to make ppl uncomfortable.

Activists take that discomfort w/ the status quo & advocate for concrete policy changes. Popular support often starts small & grows.

To folks who complain protest demands make others uncomfortable... that’s the point."

You realize that without that pipeline they ship it by truck which is much worse for the environment. Without demand it wouldn't be sold to the US.
