Earlier quoted context omitted.

What's the point of being productive without meaning and fulfillment?

The boss would prefer you don’t ask such pesky questions.

The boss doesn't care if you're productive, he just wants you to be busy.

I think this article misunderstands what productivity is and is trying to achieve. Productivity is about achieving your goals with as little waste as possible, and getting things done. It's not about deciding what those goals are. That's not a slight on productivity, it's just what the word means. meaningfulness is for yourself. Productivity is for other people asking you to achieve a goal (and you measure this productivity with money earned).

You could be doing meaningful stuff for yourself, like a starving artist. It is not productive, if other people do not pay you for your art work.

GTD has various "heights" of reviews for your week, your goals, your "someday maybe" projects, etc. Failing to perform these higher level reviews keeps you in the weeds.

I try GTD every few years and eventually abandon it because it's not a habit of mine. But just as importantly as habit/discipline is the belief that you do actually have control over your life/you can do better for yourself.

Exactly what I thought of reading this. The idea of "productivity" doesn't even make sense. People don't want to be productive, people want to be happy.

You cannot be happy all the time, contentment and peace is what we all can achieve, spiced with happiness here and there.

I do not know what the author means by productivity. On the surface there is a structure in the thought achieved by versioning the term, but beyond that there is just the chaos of ideas. And I am not sold on redefining the words, please invent new ones if you really have to.
