Many of us are not onboard with that narrative.

It's not a narrative, it is a fact.

Sure but let's be honest here. For So your odds of a negative effect from COVID without vaccine is between 0.04% and 0.006%, and may be much less.

So reasonably you should take this as worth ... roughly a tenth of a car maintenance, in time and cost.

In my state something like 28% of the population is 18 and under by my estimate, so we'll likely never reach herd immunity if the vaccines remain 16 and up. Getting a vaccine approved for kids and making it mandatory for school attendance would go a long way to getting closer to herd immunity.

We never got to herd immunity with the flu either. If we get it to the point where we have to take yearly combined flu/Covid shots, that’ll at least be better than what we’ve got going on now.

We get to herd immunity with the flu every year around this time (in the Northern hemisphere). Respiratory virus season ends and rates of transmission fall below 1.0.

“While not every single individual may be immune, the group as a whole has protection. This is because there are fewer high-risk people overall. The infection rates drop, and the disease peters out.”

Just in relation to the United States, I think we could increase vaccination compliance exponentially if getting vaccinated meant no longer having to wear a mask, social distance etc. Where is the carrot?

Pay people $250 to receive the first dose and another $250 for the second dose. In cash, on site, immediately after you get your shot. Individuals aged 16 and over only. No citizenship test: give the money to undocumented immigrants too, as long as they receive the vaccine. Pay for it with deficit spending.

Too low. $1000 per shot. And yes cash, no prepaid debit card.

Frankly it's our government's response to the "crisis" that's causing the real damage. That and the social-media mob. The internet is a gigantic vector for mental disease. That's the problem here.

So... your hypothesis is that more people are dying from mental health related issues due to the lockdown and ensuing economic problems than from SARS-CoV-2 itself? I don’t think anyone is denying that the mental health impacts aren’t real, but I’ve seen no data that supports that conclusion

The effects from lock down will take many years to manifest. Humans are known to be not good at understanding tradeoffs with long time frames

Those of us in the not at risk groups still have agency to improve our immune systems (proper vitamins and diet, avoid obesity, sleep, et al) to significantly reduce our risk against an already extremely low risk virus. Glad I've been following common sense since day one. :)

For me, the big risk is transmitting it to someone I care about.

Not sure why you got downvoted. Wide spread belief in conspiracy theories seems to prove your point.

If COVID-19 becomes an annual event like the flu then someday you will be in the 50+ group and suddenly this will matter very much to you. Meanwhile you're in the spreader group infecting those who are 50+ such as your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and potentially killing them.

In Wuhan they tested about 10 Million people and concluded "There were no positive tests amongst 1,174 close contacts of asymptomatic cases".
