What they don't mention is the length of those seasons, which in Finland consist of winter, winter, winter and construction. Even in Helsinki snow can fall as early as September and as late as May.

I have to disagree here. Both dd-mm-yyyy and yyyy-mm-dd are much much better than the mm-dd-yyyy. Both are very intuitive compared to the completely unintuitive mm-dd format.

No major tax implications, it's just for 90 days... It's more like a concierge service + air bnb "experiences" and stuff like that, plus services for your family (like day care). If you wanted to apply for a longer stay that's an option too. I think it's a neat idea though, and it sounds like fun!

I just applied, thanks for posting this! I spent the summer of 2017 interning in Helsinki for Smartly (https://www.smartly.io/) and had an amazing time. I've heard the winter is a little bit different, but I'm willing to try it out. For anyone else thinking about it -- don't be worried about the language barrier, everyone speaks English, and you can mostly pass as a native by mumbling, saying kiitos, and shrugging your shoulders.

It used to be like that, but that's no longer happening. Last winter, there was no snow in Helsinki at all :(

No catch, they only want to "capture" SV engineers. So if you work for Google in San Francisco and you convince your bosses you can work 3 months from Helsinki legally and hopefully for Finland form a company there or meet a Finn and bring them back to the US with you.
