Yes it does. Just read up on Mozilla. Mozilla receives the vast majority of its funding—roughly $400 million annually from Google Mozilla has made announcements regarding transforming Firefox into an AI-heavy browser and have started alienating longtime open-source supporters Massive salaries paid to Mozilla Foundation executives. Firefox is a joke because it's no longer a users browser. Rather than it just being a b…

I have used Firefox every day for over a decade. There are no AI features. There is no advertising. There is no restriction on extensions. Have never seen a VPN or anything other than an address bar that loads websites. It is probably the only modern standards complaint browser that is fully FOSS and out of corporate control. Stop getting your news from corporate propaganda and the outrage mob.

Try refreshing Firefox. On opening it shows two recommendations for Google; a large "VPN" button in the address bar; a toast asking me for my weather location; the address bar tries to cross sell me three Mozilla products: "Monitor, Relay and VPN".

I'm not sure how the new AI stuff works as I never enabled it, but apparently that's there, too.

Brave's built in adblocker is on par to uBlock Origin for me.

Does it have the same configurability though? Custom lists and the like? I really need those. I'd use Brave if someone made a fork with all the BAT token stuff removed but I haven't seen one.

Brave still maintains MV2 support (for now) so you get to use full-fat uBlock Origin. Eventually, I imagine they'll tire of it, say "well just use the built-in one", and get rid of MV2 when it gets too obnoxious to maintain.

I go through a 5 minute ritual every time I reimage/build a PC of installing Brave and disabling all the garbage on it. It's worth it to get Chromium compatibility and speed with uBlock Origin.

Ah I prefer firefox anyway. It has some features I can't do without. Like the multi-account containers. And its sync that is end to end encrypted.

But I might have a look at brave for the 1-2 sites I still use chromium for because they don't work with firefox properly (especially Microsoft 365 of course, as usual).

Not saying this is it, but I never managed to block YouTube shorts with brave adblocker (in mobile), where I can do it with ublock. If you can do it, please explain, I promise I will try asap (I really dislike ff mobile UI).

On mobile (similar on Desktop), just go to Setting -> Shields and Privacy -> Content Filters. In there are a bunch of Youtube related blockers (including Shorts), that I find work really well. Mobile Brave also lets you lock/screen off your phone while a YT video continues playing, which is a killer feature for listening to podcasts. I found myself becoming addicted to YT Shorts, and Brave's filters totally solved my…

You are my hero. Thanks.

I tried to get myself a custom "Brave Origin" some time ago, but just like upstream Chromium, some related code are just poorly guarded, it's not really trivial to do it and keep it up with upstream.

Mate, It's even bundled with FreeBSD releases which is as far from corporate propaganda and outrageous mob you can get. I use FreeBSD.

With every new install of firefox requires you have to remove: sponsored content and news from tabs, Pocket. It asks you if you desire to use Mozilla Ai and many other Mozilla third party shite.

So maybe it should be you who needs to open their eyes. Reformat your OS and reinstall Firefox and then tell me it doesn't come with shite.

Why?

They must love giving their personal information to Microsoft. Mac users are used to it with the icloud "privacy" proxy they default enable on macos/ios users to slurp everything they do already, so I guess why limit yourself to giving your info to only to Tim Apple. Microsoft needs love too.

A shame I can’t downvote this. It is both factually false, and worded in a very aggressive way.

iCloud private relay is only available for iCloud+ users. It cannot be enabled by default, and is not, even for iCloud+ users BTW.

iCloud private relay is a novel dual-party VPN-like technology where neither party involved gets to be able to track the user, says Apple. Yes, it requires trust to believe it, but I tend to think the company the size of Apple would not go around throwing statements like these if they weren’t true, at least to the best of their knowledge, especially since privacy and trust is literally one of the core of Apple businesses… They would be lynched if it were proven that this is false.

Finally your comment was posted after the person my comment was directed to answered a perfectly reasonable answer!

I'd rather have 100% of devices on my network have near 90% of all ads effectively ad blocked than deal with installing ad blockers on all possible clients. Sure, I use an ad blocker on my personal machine with firefox, but none of the phones besides mine does. None of the family that visits do. Barely any of my friends that come over do. None of the TVs and streaming devices and whatnot do. I am blocking more ads fr…

I'm surprised to hear that it's so successful beyond banner ads. I figured most platforms would use the same domain for their ads as their content. I'm pretty sure YouTube and my "smart" TV do that. Plus I'd prefer to use DNS over HTTPS instead of using unencrypted DNS.

Unbound uses DoH as the upstream provider. So in theory all my DNS traffic leaving my home network is always via DoH

Sure, but have YT Premium for the family. Don't know how anyone can use YT without it. And it blocks 90% of ads, the rest are tolerable / go mostly unnoticed.

The funniest part of this is that you're paying to still see 10% of the ads. I use Firefox and see 0% of the ads for free

Reading comprehension? I don't see any ads with YT premium. That's the whole point. Plus you get YTM. Great that FF works for you (I also use FF), but I, nor my family sees any ads on any of our PCs, Phones, TVs etc. YT premium is stupid cheap for what it provides.
