Okay. It also coincides with the end of the post-pandemic hiring boom and the UK bank rate going from 0.1% to 5.25%. It's kind of funny that reliable data analysis has never been part of the AI hype when you consider that AI is used for data analysis.

Yes, but overall job ads are up. Pay is going up. But specifically entry level is down significantly since Nov 2022. All of your points - interest rates, post pandemic hiring boom would apply to market as a whole. Not saying it’s causation like the article claims, but there’s at least some correlation trend.

You can't trust job ads at all

You are comparing apples to oranges here. These are two completely different things.

Image the labour share of GDP could be a constant 100%, but perhaps the top 1% of workers (eg CEOs) get all the rewards and the other 99% get nothing.

(That's not meant to be realistic, just to illustrate that you can have a very unequal distribution despite a high or even growing labour share of GDP. No opinion expressed on whether the statistics you cite are any good.)

So here you are suggesting that when we observe that interest rates have been raised, we should conclude that the economy was strong? (Otherwise the central bankers wouldn't have raised.) But the original comment I first replied to seemed to suggest that high interest rates should lead us to deduce a weak economy.

you raise interest rates to slow economic activity, you lower them to speed it up. yes, if interest rates are raised, that means employment is too high, basically, and they want to lower it.

Not directly. The Bank of England targets inflation, not employment.

That means that some (few) workers may be getting the lion's share (but note that "income" isn't limited to workers, so it may also be none), not workers in general. People are interested in the latter, not the former.

I'm not so sure. An analogy: any idiot can take a calculus class today, but it took Leibniz and Newton to come up with it in the first place. (And even those geniuses didn't do it properly: it took until the likes of Karl Weierstrass and friends to put analysis on a firm footing.)

AI generated code in all but the most trivial cases is never production ready.

In the real world, the resulting code that correctly and efficiently solves a problem ends up being unique enough such that an AI wouldn't learn much even if you fed this result back in. It's just going to average away all the important parts that made it correct.

If real world code wasn't so sparse and time consuming to develop it wouldn't be so valuable in the first place. Not to mention the fact that the maintenance is what you really care about and where the real costs are. Application code doesn't stand still.
