"and I take personal responsibility for that." As usual, no accountability for it. Just responsibility. I take it boards are incapable at holding leaders accountable for bad decisioning?

Would be great to see a CEO’s performance plan cut (options taken away or something) rather than this crocodile tear act we always see. In some industries CEOs take paycuts to keep folks employed but you don’t see that in tech.

The “responsibility” is all fake.

My wife woke up this morning to an email sent at 3:16AM informing her that she was laid off as part of this restructuring. It's a blessing in disguise, IMHO -- the work-life boundaries expected as part of her org were non-existent (calls with India every night at 8PM or 7AM, our time in California, on top of the normal 9-5 hours). It's definitely hard to process. Lots of feelings of anger, sadness, relief, etc. Fortu…

Is this 9 months of full pay? How long was your wife's tenure if I may ask?

Yeah, that's what it sounds like to us. She had been there about 6 years.

Why would anyone wake up to an email at 3AM?

Perhaps I phrased that wrong.

When we woke up at (roughly at 6:30), she saw a work email on her phone announcing the layoffs.

If you do that companies will be more reluctant to hire, since they’ll have to factor in the risk of paying a hefty severance.

Do you like the current status quo where employers are not reluctant to hire, and they're just as likely to lay folks off? Where's the efficiency for employee or employer?

No matter where you work in any major city in the US, whether you are working for a major tech company or your run of the mill enterprise shop, you should be making at least twice the median household income of your local area if you have at least three years of experience. If people making half of what you make can manage to survive and it be homeless or go hungry, you should be able to save enough “to live in a position of f%%l you” (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xdfeXqHFmPI).

You may not be able to put little Timmy in private school and he may have to gasp go to a public college.

I have personal experience with other ERPs and Salesforce is the best of the lot in my opinion. With my current company, we have employees in Singapore, Europe, USA, and South Africa etc. who all interact with Salesforce on a daily basis. We use it for CRM, service support (VOIP with call tracking), marketing, financials (questionable decision), and analytics (Tableau). Where it shines in my opinion is that does auto…

We just switched from classic to lightning and the latter is anything but lightning fast: Timeouts, white screens, and generally frustrating.

If you open a case with SF support, they will tell you to run the various "optimizers". Hopefully, they will point you in the right direction. e.g., https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.optimizer_ki... https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.community_bu...

The people downvoting you are suffering from a sort of survivorship bias. Sure, now you'd like the comfort of knowing your employer would have to pay you a ton of money if they laid you off, but what if you were somebody who was recently laid off looking for a job and people were reluctant to hire beacuse of this requirement? It's not clear to me that it's a net win, from my perspective I'd rather be able to easily r…

Whenever I look at client’s Salesforce setups, I always wonder in the back of my mind what they will do if Salesforce has a significant down-turn? The lock-in to the platform appears to be very fierce. Are there viable routes to exit Salesforce if anyone ever needed to? (Note: I’m not saying Salesforce is doomed or anything, just the layoffs got me thinking in that direction theorically).

May I ask what VOIP and tracking solution you took?

Why would anyone wake up to an email at 3AM?

It sounds like their job was pretty toxic and pushing through their work-life boundary. (This has happened to me before). When that happens regularly, and you get used to being woken up in the middle of the night to respond to a technical outage or needy management, the lightest phone buzz can shock you awake. Given the described situation, I'm not surprised they woke up to an unexpected phone notification :(

Yeah -- definitely toxic! There were really no boundaries. We have two kiddos as well. So it ended up conflicting with bedtime at night or getting ready for school in the morning. Managers were just not sympathetic at all.

To clarify, we woke up at our normal time and saw the email.

Not really the source and not specific to the bottom 25(but the bottom 50), based on this graph(https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/WFRBLB50107) we can see net worth going up quite dramatically. If you look at pretty much any metric of capital(https://fred.stlouisfed.org/release/tables?rid=453&eid=81366...), it has been rising for the bottom 50. How much of that is attributed to income vs government stimulus is unclear.
