Don't buy at IPO. Buy after the lockup expires.

Is that the pattern of other IPOs? I've seen lots of 'lockup expiry' fud that never materialized. No sudden dump of employee shares.

You really shouldn't expect to; everyone knows it's coming, so it'll be largely priced in.

What happens after lockup expires?

Employees who own shares before the IPO are often prevented from selling them right as the company IPO, that's the lockup period. After this period (often 6 months), they are allowed to sold their shares. The reasoning of GP is that a lot of shares will be sold right after the lockup expires (because employees want to cash-in/diversify), artificially depressing the price.

At my company, they don't want to deploy OSS Vault on prem. Apparently we need the enterprise edition, because it is easier for our operations team.

Having used vault quite a lot, I'm not really sold on it. Do you see any value in this tool? I've done the whole sidecar mess, middle of the night three keys unlock like we're arming a nuclear weapon and everything, and most of the time it's just been a total faff and imo security theatre vs actual security. End of the day, the secrets are being written to a .properties file or /proc/ /env somewhere anyway and can be…

With its PKI endpoint, it makes it pretty easy to stand up an internal CA. No faffing about with arcane openssl commands.

The 3 of 5 keys thing is just a default and easily changed.

Don’t understand why anyone would need their cloud products. Who needs Terraform or Nomad or Vault as a service?

I use it to now and then reset the Dev DB. So it is marginally more convenient than running on your pc (since it takes 20 mins to reset the db). But im sure there are better usecases haha.

Setting all my infrastructure in Terraform in general has been a big waste of time for our startup since as soon as we got it running we never ever had to touch it again. Actually curious if somone touches their infra regularly.

Are the executives included in these measures?

Yes, and even investors.

I really would like to challenge this. There’s many times no need, but busywork have to feed busywork.

If you're at a large company, the only thing worse than dealing with processes is dealing with the chaos you have in the absence of processes with everyone running around doing their own thing. (Obviously there can be bad process as well.)

I’m not saying ”no processes are needed” - I’m saying at big companies many redundant processes are never questioned.

Too many processes are never automated, and people are assigned to manually enforce and follow up on processes, that should be completely automatic.

This is where process busywork creates yet further busywork. Prime example? ITIL (as this is an IT focused site many probably have heard of it).

If you don’t automate the heck out of ITIL you reduces quality, slow any pace down and the mess remains.

Question to EU folks: do you see HCP at your stock broker? Out of curiosity, I checked the two stock brokers I have accounts with (Revolut and DeGiro), and it's not there yet. Do you know what EU (or French) brokers have the Nasdaq companies on the day of IPO?

Hargreaves Lansdown: Not seeing it.

I've put a request in for it: https://www.hl.co.uk/help/dealing/share-dealing/investing-in...

No idea the likelihood of them actually adding it though.

I don't understand your insistance on "nerds" and don't see who "we" is supposed to be.

"we" as a company as opposed to the authors spontaneous feelings. I don't know about the nerd thing though

Does that mean that 0des is speaking as a Gitlab employee here? I'm sorry if the question is stupid, the whole thing sounds very confusing to me.
