The "big" HomePods do support Airplay, I would assume the HomePod mini does as well. But indeed, if you have AppleMusic or iTunes Match, they become more useful.

How is MrMC these days? I stopped using it about a year ago and migrated to Infuse as the MrMC UI was gross.
Infuse is missing the sort-ability of KODI (e.g. sorting by Director, or by rating), does MrMC have these features?

#187The coolest part to me is that they're using the S5 watch SoC to power it. Pretty cool that Apple's various hardware teams can just grab a part off the shelf to use in a completely different class of device. I'd love to see them reintroduce AirPort routers powered by an A-series chip.
Agreed. I wonder what the cost is on that chip. Apple Watch S5 - Sensors + Speaker + Markup = $99
Display + restrictions on internals/construction due to size constraints will make up a large part of that cost as well. I'd imagine that the chip itself is a pretty small percentage of the price of an Apple Watch.

Am I the only one that finds this astounding? Not to mention the inability to take an aux cord.
It's one thing for phones to have these lock-in properties, but not being able to aux in audio into a speaker feels wild to me.

It uses Bluetooth LE for proximity sensing so that you can pass audio from your phone to the HomePod just by waving them near one another.

I'd be sort of surprised if you couldn't "cast" arbitrary audio from a phone or laptop to the homepod.
You can, at least from any Airplay 2 supported device. Mac, iOS, just change the output setting. Audio will sync up with video as well. Stereo pair only works with iOS and iTunes on Mac. (Not system audio)
