I only speak for myself, but an AI-generated hero image is an indicator that the rest of the article might also be AI-generated.

I use the "slop" moniker for good LLM output as well as bad.

In my opinion, AI art is best when it laughs at itself in a meme context. For e.g. the recent General Grievous Pawn Stars video, or the Indian Hulku-re meme. When it tries to take itself too seriously to approximate reality, then it becomes icky.

Anything critical of AI tends to get flagged/downvoted pretty quickly. I'm sure there are tons of bots doing it. Gotta promote AI so the rich can get richer, I guess.

Finally we can realize Harrison Bergeron levels in society and fill everything in our lives with content generated by the most average among us using an averaging machine.

I hate that creators are over represented in society because they, you know, create popular culture. Also, why does video entertainment need to be so over-represented by theater/public performer types who have a flare for drama? Doesn't seem right. That's a fallacy. This community is rational. Feelings are exactly as rational as ideas. You can use feelings to express irrationality - but as humans, we are 100% composed of feelings. While its true that humans are biological entities influenced by emotion, "rationality" refers to a specific process of evaluating claims based on logic and evidence. to claim that feelings are "exactly as rational" as ideas simply because they share a common source in the brain is a category error. it’s like arguing that a car's exhaust is "exactly as functional" as its engine because both are composed of the same metal.

Thinking more about my "Dino is fine" - I realized I was taking it as a "reaction image" appropriate to a forum thread or twitter or text replies.

If you're "taking the time" to write something, adding an obvious AI image (without calling it out as such) is worse than having nothing.

I need to meditate on why I feel this way.

I wish people stop using generic hero images that do not relate to the article, AI or not. It's not that I have trouble scrolling past yet another stock photo of Scandinavian forests on a tech blog. It's that they make the entire deal feel like a corporate marketing blog optimized for marketing rather than information and I don't like that.
