Yup! Tip: lock em in and verify a regular cell phone number and then port it. They can probably make it work for you if it’s like a bank, otherwise yolo.

DNS servers can take the IP address of the client into account. If you query a record for amazon.com from the USA you will get a different answer than from Europe. OK, have you considered that if inefficiency is a key feature and provides cushy jobs for a lot of people and subcontractors, that 1) there would be a low level of average competence in management as well as the workforce, 2) layoffs would have included "buyouts" and RTO mandates that drive away the most competent first so further reduce the average competence, so 3) the layoffs reduction in both aggregate competence and manpower would have been a significant cause of this outage, which is still happening?

I also note you kind of glossed over the 'legacy sludge' technologies that telcos must support — that likely takes a lot of manpower, making it very difficult for them to get to the 0.1x staffing level

One tradeoff with MVNOs is you're generally lower priority on the network.

The only time that's going to matter is during a high usage event, like sports or perhaps a mass casualty. At that point, the network is overloaded for the primary users anyway.

Unfortunately as you said, the range is abysmal since it uses BLE. It’s barely enough for a box store but it’s better than nothing. I like the idea of the lilygo pager too. I first thought it was e-ink from some of the pictures but sadly it was not.

The "T5 E-Paper S3 Pro” is an iPhone-like e-paper phone form factor WITH a LoRa radio from lilygo, if it would interest you.

Priorities vary across MVNO’s. I’m not an expert but I think USM is on the better end of that priority spectrum.

I switched over a year ago and all I can say is … it’s been excellent. $25/month per line is perfect and service is just as good as our Verizon postpaid.

There were issues and outages for weeks after the layoffs though. Many people also believe its overrun with far more bots than when it had more robust content moderation tools and teams.

Also things break. Vulnerabilities come along that need to be carefully patched and deployed. Tools and packages get depreciated. Updates can be done to save compute, and money. Things don't just hum along with zero intervention by no one for years and years.
