Healthcare in the US is already in very poor shape. Thousands die because of waiting for care, misdiagnosis, or inefficiency leading to magnified costs which in turn leads to denied claims because insurers won't cover it. AI is already better at diagnosis than physicians in most cases.

It was just yesterday we were laughing at Gemini recommending smoking during pregnancy

Yep, remember asking in previous US administration and AIs like Gemini how many genders there are or to generate pictures of white Europeans. People forgot too quickly ho big of a no-no that was and now they seethe when the same speech censorship practices they approved of are used against their talking points. What I learned was that everyone's definition of censorship was: "everyone who disagrees with me".

I wonder how this intersects with their interest in "unbiased" models. Scare quotes because their concept of unbiased is scary.

Google's hyper-quantized tiny AI summary model isn't reflective of the abilities of the current SOTA models (Gemini Pro 2.5, o3, Opus)

I can see room for an argument for liberalizing what’s available over the counter (and, I guess we’ll have to work out something with insurance in that case..). But the whole point of the prescription system is that some medicines need doctor consultation before you use them. Working around that with AI seems quite silly.

That's a pretty fantastic claim. Can you provide some links to the body of independent research that backs it up?

One can be sure regulatory capture is rarely in the public interest.
