I had a BMW which had an absolute perfect calibration of the sensor. It just WORKED.
Then I got a new windshield and all fell apart. As it was a BMW, I had to go to the dealer and have the rain-sensor re-calibrated.
And then it worked flawless again.

I think that's more of justification and excuse than a legitimate belief.
