#174My 16 year old son is autistic and mostly nonverbal. He has been making some great progress on this app lately: https://speakforyourself.org/
That being said, as a parent you really have to work with him on it. It isn't easy to build it into his daily routine. It also helps to have his teachers on board with it. That is why I think he has improved on so much recently.
It is also very expensive at $300 but, in terms of making a difference to his life, it is well worth it.

#175Using Apple/iCloud for everything, and getting rid of other services and software. One low monthly payment. Seamless integration between devices. Easy sharing of purchases, photos, or other media. Apple has an app for everything we need (notes, reminders, calendar, browsing, music, videos, password manager, photos, videos, etc.) No need for shared email as we use a shared bank account, and Apple Pay/Wallet supports shared cards (Apple Card also has a co-owner/family support).

I have a server, a small project of mine, and i installed nextcloud. Now my whole family and close friends use it to backup our photos. The official app for it is exceptional for syncing (you can set it to ONLY do the sync when charging or other parameters). My preferred solution would be phone -> local backup (for safety) -> Google Photos (for convenience). If the sync to local is about as good as google this would be the best for me. Distant Plan b: phone -> google photos -> local backup. The problem here is that the only way to get your originals out of google photos is to use google takeout which is basically a dealbreaker here.
My solution is same as your plan A. Except that local backup is a NAS that also stores all backups from computers as well as photos from phones. Then everything goes to back blaze and photos go to Google photos for convenience of sharing.

Apple allows movies from other sources (ahem) to be shared across devices seamlessly. It's called something similar to "home sharing" "home library" etc. There is a separate app in Apple TV which lists shows and movies from all devices on the home network.

#179- Bitwarden: took a couple of “lost my password” to convince everyone to use it
- Bring: we collaborate on shopping list with this
- ChatGPT Plus: we use it for work and even to organize our meals for camping
- Home Assistant: useful automations around the home
- Splitwise: great way to split bills back when I lived with a roommate… Now mostly use it for trips with friends & family
