20x is a huge exaggeration. It’s more like 5x in hypothetical flops. For example, in Elden Ring an optimized 800p with mixed low to medium settings will hit 45 FPS. On a 5700XT you’re looking at the high 90fps range for 1080p medium settings. So it’s really in all practical purposes 2-3 times better and your steam deck has a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz anyway. Running Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 on the deck gets around 30-45 fps with some lag spikes on low settings. Streaming from my 5700xt I can get 90fps ultra. It's massively better to stream from even this old GPU than to play locally.

The barrier to entry for tinkering on Linux is so much lower now for anyone with a $20 Claude/Codex plan. What might have been an hours/days of fruitless head-scratching can now be done in minutes while you grab a coffee. While I haven't tried this yet, I do have a Bazzite box that would be a good fit. I wouldn't treat the rough edges as a deterrent the way we have in the past.
I've been driving NixOS with Codex and it's simply amazing. I used to regard Nix as a hobbyist thing that I couldn't bother with because it's tedious and complex even though the declarative nature of it is so cool. Now the tedious and complex parts are gone, leaving only the benefits. NixOS is definitely my preferred place to be now because the AI can maintain the declaration tree while me a monkey just say "me want Razer keybind switcher in tray" and it builds one in 10 minutes and writes it into the config so setting up a new computer with it is easy as cake.
