We are all lucky that Alan Dye is off screwing up Meta now and that Tim Cook is not long for Apple. Even with just Dye gone I expect things to improve but I doubt a big change will happen until Tim Cook leaves (which cannot come soon enough).

what are you people talking about? Cook is the best thing that happened to apple. Look at their sales. They are killing the laptop market - likely a complete dominance in the next years. same with the iphone - first year to be the biggest phone seller in a long time.
the switch to ARM and their M silicon was one of the best moves in computing in years.

Curiously, since the last update I have the problem where Safari tabs go completely white after a while. Refreshing doesn‘t help. I have to copy the URL and paste it into a fresh tab.

The M silicon is real, but Nokia, a company that specialized in rubber products, was doing low-power ARM 30 years ago, and the stage was set by His Jobsness with Mach binaries and Rosetta. Tim Cook was excitedly waving his hands in the last event video about some kind of evaporative cooling mechanism in the latest low-end iPhone. He has completely missed the plot.

You can use tools like CleanMyMac to show folders and their sizes. All cache and library files are counted under System, e.g. files from vagrant, docker, vms, old jetbrains IDEs, caches from rarely used/uninstalled apps etc. You don‘t need to buy the full version, you can just use the info and delete it manually in Finder.
Having to reach for a 3rd party tool to keep litter off your system is the opposite of the Just Works marketing that Apple stands by. One of the reasons for switching over to a Mac is so you don't have to sit there running these dicey Cleaner and Sweeper apps just to keep your system maintained. If a software's (OS or otherwise) pile of vague "caches" and "library files" grows unbounded, then I would consider that a bug.

I'd say that it was not so much that he was a founder, but that he was the kind of business person that was happy talking to Steve Wozniak, Bill Atkinson, Andy Hertzfeld, and similar nerds. Sadly, with some people it doesn’t matter how much money they have or how much help you give them behind the scenes. I’m not saying Jobs went to the end of the earth for him, I don’t know. But I know people from my own life where it didn’t matter, so it’s in the realm of imagination at least.

Yes. Maybe they saw Windows 11 and decided that now it's the right time to release Liquid Glass and fix it later. Anyway I've been on Linux since 2009 and it's getting better at each release (Ubuntus up to 20.04 and then Debian, Gnome.)
I've been on linux 1999-2013 but then I got tired of it "getting better" UI wise so I bought Macs.
I should check out how KDE is doing, Gnome and whatever Ubuntu delivers these days don't look like fun.
Command lines... I have them open on mac, linux and windows all the time.

#170My MacBook Air complains about being low on storage, and when I check the disk usage (I have a 256GB version of M1), 15GB is used for Apple Intelligence, which does nothing for me, and there is no way to remove that.
You can remove Apple Intelligence offline models. Assuming you already have Apple Intelligence disabled:
Enable Siri, change Siri's language to Chinese, wait an hour, disable Siri again.
At least, it worked for me yesterday.
