With Jekyll, you just have your site in a ` .github.io` repository, and it automatically publishes your site for you. So, the process is: write in markdown, commit, push, and then GitHub does the rest.

Yep, I know. But honestly I find all the jekyll themes pretty ugly

Posthaven is pretty minimalist and still there.

PS. As many comments here are about fonts, the most recent (rare changes, as in, back in 2016, which is a "good thing") feature update to Posthaven was customizable html/css: https://blog.posthaven.com. Also does post by email, custom domains, and rss feeds.

This seems far too broad, mainly because of the religious restriction. A blog on comparative religion could be removed for using the word "heterodox". Faith is a choice, unlike all the other protected characteristics in this list.
