I don't care about "some spec". I want to know how this product, that is coming from China, isn't already tainted with the virus itself. Your refutation to my logic is "cmmon man" ? It would lead to what action precisely? I'm not a pessimist. I'm trying to be pragmatic.

It's not a refutation of logic though because you didn't provide any. It's simply scoffing at your ridiculous level of suspicion. You aren't being pragmatic. There is a different term for what you are being.

The EU sending aid is definitely a political flex. It is still a good gesture, but sending aid is a sign that a country is in a 'superior' position. Jack Ma doing this is also a political move. I'm sure that part of the motivation is just to help, but it seems clear to me that this is also intended to show that China is in a position to help the US, and the optics of that are that the countries are on equal footing.…

In the case of COVID 19 testing and preparation China today is undoubtedly in a much superior position.

You can even ignore how badly the US government has bungled it. The simple reason is that China is the second largest economy in the world and has had more time to deal with and tackle the virus.

The problem is that the US federal government has so thoroughly messed up the situation that this looks really bad. If the US government hadn’t done such a bad job of testing this donation may have maybe added 50% or doubled the number of available tests and it would simply look like a generous donation, rather than also shining light on the embarrassing US response.

Why do you believe so strongly that China can't manufacture reliable health products? Most of the health products we've been using for decades are manufactured in China! They are currently operating a fairly successful effort against this disease, and the tests in question are a part of that effort. No one in USA has done the basic work in this field. SMH.

It's not much different from the Gates Foundation and similar ventures. When you're so rich money doesn't matter philanthropic works are expected.

It also doesn't help that the current administration has bungled the testing from day 1; in the past we would have ramped up testing when the disease was spreading in China. Whether it's lack of leadership, incompetence, or deliberate we don't know. But Dear Leader certainly won't take responsibility for it and isn't interested in solving the problem so lack of leadership is definitely a factor. My guess is at least some in the administration were dumb enough to believe it wouldn't spread in the US.

Well... for one, it is illogical to infer geopolitically motivated chemical warfare from a personal charitable act. Especially so when coronavirus would not survive on the masks for the duration of a shipment from China...

So, if you do the thing you suggested yourself, and NOT infer an assumption of a geopolitically motivated act coming from me, you will see that my logic as stated in point 1 and 2 is actually pragmatic and logical.

Assume no malicious intention.

How about we even assume that we paid for this stuff and Jack Ma didn't just hand it out for free. This is to remove your bias that a charitable gesture from someone, so that these products won't escape basic sensible scrutiny.

Are you seriously going to use the products to aid in this national emergency, that was literally made in the country that this virus originated from ... without testing it at all to verify that it is free of the virus that started it all?

Bullshit squared. If the tests give you false results you are going to OVERWHELM the medical system with people who should have tested negative. As it is our tests only have about 1% false positive rate and tests being used in other parts of the world seem to be in the 3% range. We're not talking about cancer tests here. We're in a pandemic. The value we would get out of 500k tests for covid-19 with a 3% error rate is far superior to 500 tests with an error rate of 1%. Give me the 500k tests please!

Again, sorry, but I have developed a low tolerance for the nonsense that going around out there with regards to COVID-19. Nobody seems interested (or able to) fire-up a spreadsheet and do some math.

If you have half a million people using shit masks and shit tests we will overwhelm our medical facilities.

Do you have ANY idea what's going on in Italy right now. It's so sad. Doctors are having to choose who they let die. And no, we are not necessarily talking about COVID-19 patients. They are so overwhelmed that if a patient shows up with a stroke or other conditions they are having to choose between patients and let some die.

This is the danger. It is F---ING INSANE to propose that we test everyone with untreaceable kits and walk around with untreacable masks. If you want to see millions of people die, go for it.

The public-private collaboration the White House Coronavirus Team put together is going to have MILLIONS of high quality tests we can trace and rely on within days. 3M is spinning up US-based mask manufacturing operations throughout the country and will meet critical demand.

Sorry, we don't need more Chinese shit. The virus was enough.
