Can anybody in HN provide a quickpath into the beta? I signed up when it was first announced (seems to be over 30 days ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11352389 ) but haven't heard anything back yet.

If you're comfortable sharing your Docker ID, feel free to share it here and we'll fast-track you! Generally anyone who cares enough to ask directly, we'll automatically add to the top of the list. EDIT: or, feel free to contact us privately with a few details on your configuration and use case: feedback+hn@docker.com

My company has an increasingly complex SOA setup that right now is developed in an ad-hoc basis, but with containers we expect to really streamline our dev setup and dev/production parity. We're all on Macs so this is would be pretty cool to get access to.

Docker ID: gtds

Requesting some Docker Beta love too! I'm working on getting 50+ developers running on Windows when this goes live.

"cbushko" is the ID.

I'd certainly be interested - Docker ID: predakanga

Specifically, I'm interested in exploring integration with JetBrains IDE's docker plugins

Would also love to try it for a new architecture we are developing. Docker ID: timc3

I hope there's going to be an easy way to package this with your own docker image in order to have a new way to distribute applications. My usecase is running a server locally so you can use a webapp with local network speed and offline access and lots of local storage.

Isn't that Sandstorm's usecase... more or less?

Interesting, this is the first time I'm reading about it [1]. Well, if anything it looks like a web app would have to be rebuilt from the ground up to fit that model. I haven't yet read much about it, but here's a few questions that pop up immediately:

1) If you have a container per data object, doesn't that mean you also have to start a process every time a user opens a document? So forget about doing any computations in the setup. Even just things like using regex patterns in python (that need to be compiled once) or using anything with a VM (that needs to be started) you'd have to give up. Usecase seems to be extremely limited, but maybe I'm not getting something right here.

2) How do you handle indexes, views and collections over a large set of data objects?

I have Docker for Windows Beta, but when I've installed it on my Surface Pro 3, it immediately caused the device to get stuck in a BSOD loop. I think it has something to do with Hyper-V and connnected standby but I'm not 100% sure. Wasn't able to find an answer because it's so early on. I really want to get into Docker, but that bug has killed any possibility of me adopting it as of right now. I did install it on a desktop (which I lightly use) and it worked fine. With the new Windows 10 Insider build on that desktop though, Docker constantly is asking permission to run.

Anyhow, I really hope someone does a good overview of Docker for Windows beta, as well as the Ubuntu environment within Windows 10 now...Seems like OSX gets all of the dev love, so I'm wish and hoping for a really nice Windows overview. As I am currently having a hard time with both. Neither, as of right now, work well.

It seems like this is the future and I'd like to get an early peek so I can help my team move once it's release publicly.

Thanks!

>the sudden deprecation of docker-compose for docker-machine was a nasty surprise. I think you meant the deprecation of Boot2Docker?

Sorry, you're right -- got them flipped.

Disclaimer: I work at Docker.

Yes, we screwed up on the b2d->machine transition. Sorry for making that experience unnecessarily confusing. We've learned a lot from that mistake and are working hard to avoid repeating it.
