Sam Altman is a serial liar and grifter. He personally donated $1M to Trump. Don't believe a word in that press release.

This shouldn't be understated.

Also, implicit in the government's requirements is that they require mass domestic surveillance capabilities. Imagine a large government tool that for each citizen there is an antagonist OpenClaw-like set of agents surveilling and potentially acting against every public interaction and occasionally hallucinating.

because it is a big fucking risk if the tool you rely on can refuse to function at a critical moment, and the vendor publicly brags about refusing to eliminate such refusals. ta-ta, see you in 3 years.

UPDATE: Sam Altman just agreed to be the DoD's replacement but says he made them agree to no mass surveillance/autonomous weapons (the same terms that were rejected from Anthropic? Everyone is skeptical in the replies on Twitter)

My first thought here was that Anthropic just became the first call for Europe to discuss AI services and infrastructure. I wonder if a US company has ever wholesale emigrated before?

Please note that mass surveillance of Europeans is fine from Anthropic's statement.
