FWIW, I would absolutely recommend learning a regular linear DAW in addition to FL Studio. I'm not an FL user, I'm a heavy Ableton Live user (entirely because of Max for Live), and it is also "non-standard". There are a lot of things that are much, much faster in DAWs from the pro-tools oriented lineage and it is well worth the few seconds it takes to copy audio from one to the other at times.

I'm aware, I've used Cubase long-term, as well as a number of other ones in the past. FL Studio still gives me the fastest iteration speed out of all of them so far. However, I don't think that's due to FL Studio somehow being architected better or worse. I just think its score ("piano roll") editing controls are much better than most other DAWs I've used and it gets out of my way for the most part when trying to get…

I feel the same way about the FL piano roll but don't quite understand what makes it unique. Shouldn't be "easy" to replicate?

Users want an installer. You can see what the installers are doing by looking at the scripts in the repo (this is an open source project). Admin permission is necessary to write to the Global VST folder. You can direct your "Wow" at Steinberg if you want. The spec was recently updated to allow for a User install location which has been considered: https://steinbergmedia.github.io/vst3_dev_portal/pages/Techn... If you…

So especially if it's OSS I don't think it's bad to require a bit of effort from the user especially if it takes unpaid time maintaining the installer wrapper. Thanks for the bundle link!

Audio plugins folders are a bit of mess. Even I appreciate the installer.

Of course it's more convenient. You just have to hope a hacker did not replace the link on their website to a modified version or not sneaked some code into their installer code through a dependency. Installer is basically root for free so it's very tempting.

I really like the UI in the sound production software. It's neat, has good colors and keep being eye candy even given the number of controls and information it provides. Is it some sort of standardized style guide for this kind of UI or everyone just takes inspiration by some industry leader products?

https://juce.com Maybe that's what you want?

pretty much. are there open source alternatives to its UI module?

I'm not a musician, but I've been happily using Ardour to edit a podcast for many years now (paying for a subscription the whole time too) and I really like the workflow I arrived at with it. One particular feature I like is the ability to edit while playing the audio at 2x speed, which I use to do a quick first pass where I remove obvious things like dead air, coughs, uhms, etc., before doing a second pass at 1x loo…

I'm glad you've been able to see this issue fixed, but I'm wondering (genuinely) why you didn't bother reporting this issue, which kept you from upgrading software that you were paying a subscription for (!) for over three years (Ardour 6.0 was released in May 2020). As you can see from the thread, the Ardour developers were happy to improve the software based on your feedback. In general (with a few exceptions), ope…

I thought that my use case was too particular, since Ardour's focus is in music production, and that made me shy away from reporting it as I wasn't even sure I could call it a bug. But you're right, I should've.
