It’s reasonable to assume that a subset of the population thinks of these things. It is not unreasonable to assume that >50% of Gmail users have never considered it.

I didn't say anything about all or most gmail users. I specifically referred to a person who relies on gmail for his business, and who is apparently screwed without access to it. People who run businesses think through their risk exposure in general, and they get things like key man insurance policies to mitigate risks related to single points of failure. Anyone thinking through such things would realize that an emai…

I doubt every small business manager considers ‘what’s happens if I lose my gmail’, there are plenty of trades so far detached from email where that would be the case. I doubt many plumbers are checking their business email while flying, either.

Google really needs to do something about this. It’s one thing for them to stop doing business with you, it’s another to withhold your data from you (in particular after they set up their services such that you’re inclined to store everything with them). Every time I read one of these stories it reminds me that I really need to break away from them. I currently use Google Voice for almost all SMS 2FA after a nightmar…

I recall there are some providers resistant to this attack but also not Google.

Best of luck. Its not a great situation to be in.

There's a story of an OnlyFans star who slept with Meta employees "in hopes" of getting her IG account unbanned, which worked.

Congrats for them but that's also f** up - no recourse, but essentially being coerced into sex work to having a problem (often caused by the company) to be fixed.

Fwiw, you might want to look into "non violent communication" (which is unfortunately named, because people always think they know what it's about, while not actually understanding it whatsoever)

As an uninvolved reader in this thread, your phrasing was definitely done in a way that caused this response from him.

Not at all trying to be mean, and I'm fully aware that this comment I'm writing is also (knowingly) using phrasing which the previously mentioned NVC cautious from, but I only consider it something to be aware of - to understand interactions vs something to adhere to stringently.

Why does reddit end up deleting so many of the threads that end up receiving any attention? It's so hard to follow anything now when you go to the site and all there is is [removed]

The mods of LegalAdviceUK are pretty strict about keeping the discussion to only actual legal advice, rather than moral or other topics.

I feel like companies over certain size needs to have live support to pester. I had my youtube premium (back when it was red) banned for violating community guidelines - impossible since account was only used for viewing videos. Appeals got auto rejected... can only repeal every few weeks... oh at time account ban = cannot access accounts page so they kept charging for months while I appealed. Had to cancel credit ca…

Same thing with Meta Verified. You can't cancel when it won't let you log in.

If anyone works for FB/Meta, my email is in my profile. Thanks in advance.

Of course I do, my point was I don't need a way to email / call a human being at Google when something is wrong with a search result.

Again, why not? Do you not want the results to have less seo garbage? Or not have AI hallucinate in your face blocking useful results? I don't get it. I mean, I understand that you don't have recourse now, but I don't understand not needing one given how important search is

One difference to something like email is that you can change search providers with minimal effort. There’s no server-side context to back up or migrate, no third parties involved: you just use a different URL.

That doesn't sound like what happened lol. I'm sure there were many other avenues she could have tried, she probably chose the one she preferred.

> All my emails, all my documents saved in Google Drive. I would think someone whose business depends on gmail would use an email client, at least periodically, to download their emails.

Why? You're going to reference them from Google Drive. Google has 400 trillion gazillion servers with copies of it. There's no way you can lose it! You wouldn't do anything weird, so there's absolutely no reason to think you'd lose your account. And honestly, we're all humans here - surely you can reach out to a company as large as Google and speak to a human if there's an issue this significant. Another consideratio…

Yes, they should be regulated. Or more likely outright shut down.

Nonetheless, at the moment, it's a real risk, and plenty of people do in fact think ahead and not make themselves dependent on those services.

Please stop posting kindergarten-level distortions of neuroscience. It burns.
