Nit: Madoff was faster, but that's because he confessed everything to his children.

He confessed to his children who were officers in his company and legally required to go to the authorities or face criminal liability themselves.

And this fishing vessal travels open ocean to another country advoiding their navy?

Why would the fishing vessel need to avoid a navy? You could also just switch to another boat at any time.

Holmes and Balwani were charged in 2018. They were finally tried and sentenced in late 2022. And the saga will likely continue with appeals. It's clear Caroline Ellison has turned against him. Stephanie Avakian, former SEC enforcement chief, is representing her in NY. I'm guessing they wouldn't have been able to file charges this quickly without Caroline becoming a cooperating witness.

Hm... does that mean she gets away scot-free? Not sure that's fair, she seems very complicit.

All country that have an extradition treaty with the US are not safe havens for any kind of federal (US) crime. That's the whole point of the treaty. Someone didn't do their homework, but given that someone is SBF, not particularly surprising.

How is it faster than Madoff? And it's far more complex than Holmes.

The NYT profiling him as a well-meaning genius who was so focused on fixing climate change and education that he just overlooked a few things at his company, gosh darn it.

That’s equivalent to saying if a bank goes insolvent you should’ve had your money in a safe at home.

For crypto yes you can have a hard wallet, but it can still be stolen from you without anyone physically touching your hard wallet.

I don’t and won’t see the appeal for crypto until it has a killer app that people NEED to use for another reason than “I can get rich quick”

The only places safe from US are China, Russia, North Korea, Iran. FTX had a lot of customers in Hong Kong. So where do you go?

North Korea might’ve welcomed another Blockchain advisor ever since Virgil Griffith’s imprisonment.
