I used to use Kayak and Skyscanner but started using Google Flights more recently because it has a much nicer interface.

Anything in particular you like about Google Flights over Kayak? Aesthetics, functionality, or efficiency?

I like skiplagged's price graph, which I didn't realize until now kayak has too. Skiplagged shows it in the search result, while kayak shows it only on the front page.

I'll miss hipmunk's time chart when trying to plan flights.

I haven't used Kayak in a while. I use Google Flights because I like the date grid. Usually my dates are flexible.

Unusually personal for me because I worked in one of their offices, but for a different company, after they had moved out.

Definitely feels like the end of a larger era. So much consolidation, stuff shutting down. "The end of the beginning", as one popular tech writer put it.

It's sadly true for most. I have noticed that Southwest is a notable outlier in all this - they don't do any of that stuff. They also don't seem to register their flights on most of the search sites. It's like they know that those customers choose based on raw price alone, no room to sell any other differences. I make it a point to search their company site first before trying any other flight search.

On southwest you have to buy priority boarding or whatever it’s called if you want to sit next to a specific person, otherwise you will end up filling individual middle seats. It’s all one and the same to me, they all have to meet their revenue targets.

An often echoed sentiment around here is 'is your startup idea a product, or a feature?' If you startup is a feature, it's just going to be copied. The only way to prevent this is with patents.

Twitter is a feature.

I'll really miss it, the visual way of seeing how a flight is split up and how long the layovers are was better than all the other aggregators. Also with their sorting by "agony" feature was great and it was always easy to see the type of the airplane.

I don't know any other aggregator who does it this well.

FYI Kayak has a date grid. When selecting a date, click the drop-down menu labeled "exact" and choose "+-3 days" (or whatever).
