I think for anything to have any effect on you, you have to stick with it for at least 6 months or more (though it definitely depends on each activity). I would always give up quickly if things got hard in any part of my life. Pretty much just run away from my responsibilities because I hated feeling bad or stressed. Working out has indirectly made me more comfortable in those situations because it's okay to feel pain (emotional or physical) sometimes. Because of that, I've learned to just get things done with ASAP and, in the end, it's much less total pain.
