If you use Google search or Gmail, they read everything you write, and aggregate that into data packages not just for ads to show you, but even aggregated demographic data to sell for ad targeting. Regardless of whether the ads reach you or not, you as a data point add to the count that make the package enticing to advertisers, so you're helping them sell the package anyways.
If google gives you full access to all their services for the $0.001 annually they get from you being part of an aggregate dataset of trillions of points, that's...a cause for outrage? Ain't nobody buying user data on users who block all ads and trackers, it's worth almost nothing (what are you going to do, show them ads?). It's not one single aggregate dataset, it's hundreds or thousands of targeted ones.
And yes, people don't like being monetized without the company doing it being transparent about how and what they're doing.
An ad blocker has nothing to do with protecting you from Google fingerprinting and categorizing you.

That doesn't matter. The reason people are using Google in the first place is because it has access to data from many sites, not their own only. If Google tomorrow removed all websites they don't own from the search index, nobody would use Google. It would be useless.
That was only true before AI overview. Now all that info they scraped from public websites and fed into their models will still be available without anyone ever leaving Google's services.
Well that is obviously not true. They need to have the index in order to serve up AI. And it's not 100% of all of the searches that are done without any search results. Remember also that the fact that there is an AI response on a particular search does not mean that it's enough. People might still click on a link. There is a reason why Google has chosen not to remove fully their search product and replace it with only an AI bot.
