That's beside the point I was making, as I said;

Moderation is censorship, and censorship is evil. It may be a necessary evil (because liability if nothing else) but it needs to be seen and treated as evil. Meaning to be used as sparingly as possible.

The precedent that privately-run internet messenger services can censor content was set a very long time ago. You’re decades late to that party. Besides, we’re not talking about political opinions here. If they ever do that (which is unlikely), then we can become justifiably upset. That’s a hill worth dying on — this one is not.

About this case in particular, one problem I have is that they seem to censor the entire domain. Most of the content on that site is bad and definitely violates Facebook's rules. A lot of it is straight up lies made up by the site owner for political purposes.

However, some articles on the site are just political opinions about the CCP. Because Facebook blocks those, I think the merits of this censorship at a coarse grain are worth discussing.

In this case, the linked article contains a lie. It's not an opinion. The article claims that a study had a result that it did not have (higher viral load amongst the vaccinated). The authors of the study have already published a condemnation explaining the misunderstanding.

Serious question: What's the difference, for your definition of "private communication", between a FB Messenger message and Reddit DM? I can't think of any reason one would be considered private and the other not.

Same way I can expect my phone operator to not change meaning of my texts between me and my wife but allow me to block messages from strangers I don't want to be bothered by.

This doesn't answer my question, which I will restate:

Why is FB Messenger 'private' while Reddit DMs are 'not private'?
