I categorically refuse to pay more money to buy something to add on to an already overpriced laptop that sticks out from my computer's form factor and that should be built in.

Fortunately for me I got a new laptop not long before this new abomination came out. If Apple doesn't correct this gigantic mistake, the next time I get a new laptop it won't be made by Apple.

To be fair to HN, Apple laptops are very common in American universities too. It's not a purely Silicon Valley thing.

I live in New Zealand (at last check, that was outside North America). I see Macs all the time.

As a developer, I find arch slightly more friendly.

Trying to get recent versions of development packages like ruby, java, npm, etc--can be a bitch on Ubuntu, where the repositories lag years behind arch.

I can empathize. I'm pretty locked into Logic, to the point where I've considered doing a Hackintosh again.

Most of mine is audio mixing for live and live-to-tape video, so I could move to Ableton, but it'll be a lot of reworking stuff that already works.

MacOS is at a standstill in terms of usability, but I feel that windows 10 has gone back.

Microsoft has chosen to focus on enterprise. This is probably the right move for their culture and the future of the company, but the remainder of their consumer products seem to be turning into an ad-supported model heavily focused on legacy support.

Windows may have a new coat of paint, but the underlying OS just gets more buried under more and more simplified UIs which ironically make its harder to use.

This is really desktop linux's time to shine, but it's usability is still sporadic.

How do tech conferences and meetup groups work without a sea of macs?

But, it might be better to say HN is a tech bubble, because everywhere in the world that I've been people who work on web tech use macs, for most of us the job would be almost impossible without a *nix OS.

And this post was written (somewhat regretfully) from a Mac in Aotearoa/New Zealand, where non mac laptops are somewhat rare in the tech community (and are then usually Linux rather than Windows).

It doesn't constantly give me "Windows Explorer has stopped working"

Sometimes MacOs reminds me of those times when Explorer could stop working:

- If I have sublimetext maximized on other display, my mouse cursor gets stuck at default pointer, no longer changing on context.

- If I have same sublimetext maximized on other virtual screen, my mouse cursor stucks in text select.

- Option to reorder icons in dock via drag and drop goes away randomly.

- When I plug display to my MBPro 2016, menubar has white square where tray goes.

- It gets stuck in boot -> kernel panic -> restart -> boot loop when I am starting it with display plugged in via their HDMI dongle.

- On random, finder stops showing changes in filesystem. I've had this happen to me in Mavericks on old laptop, it keeps happening in Sierra on new one.
