Or a drop down of appropriate flagging reasons.

Some of the juiciest discussions on this forum recently are the perma-flagged posts with active comments and high upvotes. The moderation bias (by supposed "crowd" or not) is obvious, there are clear tendencies of suppressed topics. It's like the dark side of the front page.

I'm not interested in promoting or exploring juicy discussions.

I'm just interested in some transparency: when I select "flag" I want to say why: a) this isn't a tech story b) this story is just self-serving advertising c) this story appears to have gamed itself to the front page d) this story is just a sign up page (I consider that misleading). e) the story doesn't match the headline, etc.

If I see a story flagged, I'd like to know why (headline doesn't match, self-promotion, etc).

Seems like the government has a clear mandate from the voters to take such action against those who wold try to prevent the mandated actions from being carried out.

This is the government trying to stop democracy from being subverted by sore losers. It was clearly stated in the GOP platform, the time to protest this was at the ballot box not with violent action and subversion against LEO's. Right?

That's not what a mandate is you tedious twit. The government DOES NOT have a carte blanche to do whatever the bloody hell it likes, and certainly not mass spying! "The time to protest was at the ballot box" The time to protest is all the damn time. Do you even care at all about privacy rights or are you a garden variety bootlicker?

Why would we throw away our institutions after just a term and a half of a bad president? We haven't even made it to the midterms yet, where Trump and the Republicans look pretty likely to eat shit. Calling for assassinations and riots is entirely reactionary.

What institutions are left?

All of the ones that matter, just because the current president doesn't fit your ideals, doesn't mean society is collapsing.

All the doom-gloom feelings does not change that objectively and statistically the US and world is better off now that anytime in the past over long periods of time.

"We" did do all of that when COINTELPRO was uncovered, at least ostensibly. We had committees, we changed laws, we established judicial ovesight, we "reformed" the system. As Snowden demonstrated later, none of it mattered. This government has engineered itself to be for all intents and purposes immune from the will of the people. And that was back when the government at least pretended to care about the rules, and "…

Don't you guys have entire amendments about how to enforce the will of the people?

The only time the US rose up en masse against the government to "enforce the will of the people" was in defense of slavery - and they lost. Make of that what you will.
