Not only that, but also for a Linux user, you can already build such a system yourself quite trivially by getting an FTP account, mounting it locally with curlftpfs, and then using SVN or CVS on the mounted filesystem. They won't last.

90% of people misunderstand that comment entirely. It was about the value proposition of Dropbox as of early 2007 (and also about the specific announcement!) and their long-term profitability, if anything.

> Paper was awesome at launch — so much less friction than Google Docs for teams back then Except that you had to have everyone use a Dropbox account. So if you are already in bed with Google as a company, adding Dropbox for everyone might not be such a fun idea.
Conversely, when you already collaborate with people in Dropbox, mainly via files, having real time co-editable docs under same folder with same sharing was nice, esp. for people who never remember where they put stuff :-)
Integration was not perfect, but it does create a json .paper file containing a url. But at least it makes you aware the doc exists every time you look at the folder.
Alas, with Paper desktop & mobile apps being deprecated, that's increasingly useless :-( Will the main app at least take over the ability to [double-]click these .paper docs to open them in a browser?

#125Dropbox is the place where cool products go to die.. there are a ton of new products popping up that can replace Paper. I started using Scrap and found it really easy, although their dark mode sucks.
