#122Does anyone here really think that AI will produce a new "Jungle Book" by Kipling or a new "Mona Lisa" by Da Vinci or a new "Requiem" by Mozart" which could even have a remote possibility of becoming cultural icon and reference? And is that a goal or event that the spectators are waiting for? And if it occurs what would it infer about human cultural evolution?
Famous art is about context, circumstances and marketing. Strip a famous piece of art of its context and it doesn’t have meaning. If you find someone who can put an AI generated piece of art in the right context, it could become the next Mona Lisa. But then, is the AI the artist or the person who uses AI to create context?

The images looks neat but the stories are a little bit too simple/shallow aren't they? Another thing. Don't you have a bad feeling uploading images of your kids, conveniently tagged with their age, to a random web service that promises to delete the images without even revealing the makers? I mean yes, it looks legitimate and you can find a person on Twitter who seems to be the maker of it, but that's not a guarantee…
Yes, they feel like all the stories I asked ChatGPT to write. They are all very bland, and sound like someone is making a summary of the story rather than reading the story itself. So I think it's great to get ideas of a plot for a story, but then you should write it yourself to make it more "lively".

#124Can tell it was written by ChatGPT. Has that kind of verboseness to it, can't quite put my finger on.
From the perspective of anyone going into AI, that makes children the perfect target for the mass produced blended garbage that AI generates.

I agree with this, but also note that a lot of children's books written by humans (I suppose) are terribly bland. My daughter has some Disney books which has illustrations from the films, and the writing in those is exceptionally bland. Same goes with some wonderfully illustrated, but terribly written, books from the 50s and 60s. I'd actually much prefer reading her GPT stories than those books which we have on the s…

#127The prompt [1] didn't fully transfer to the generated story. This is an important part of the prompt: > she had too much butter. Because of that, things got slippery. > Until finally she opened the first ever butter theme park. But the generated story doesn't say that the layer of butter in the kitchen was slippery, or explain that butter in general is slippery (and hence could create "slippery slides"), which make t…

#128I appreciate the sentiment (I think) but as far as kids books go, this isn't great. Can anyone point in the direction of a great AI-generated kids book?

#129I did something similar for my younger daughter using MagicStory[1] (not mine). I have told her the story quite a few times at her bed time. She has shown it to her teacher and her friends are "jealous." It has her pictures, kinda morphed like a princess and stuff. Edit: Clarifications. 1. https://magicstory.ai
Hey! Maker of https://magicstory.ai here! Super glad to hear your daughter loved it :) we're pushing updates to improve the stories and definitely take privacy seriously - right now all images get deleted once your characters model is trained. Also planning to have stock characters so you can make stories without uploading images since I get that's definitely a concern for most parents. Would love any other feedback…

GPT-3 is great at giving generic advice, true. But that aside, it surprises me how uncritical HN seems to be when it comes to children's books. Sure, they may look simple at first glance but a lot of thought and work goes into good children's books and likewise children can get a lot out of them if they're done right. It's not that the story necessarily has to have a moral, though many do. It's that they're funny and…
AI art was born from VC technologists' disrespect for art. It's not surprising they don't respect children's book writing as an actual skill. Just a cost center to be automated. This coming from a group who by and large probably hasn't written creatively in their entire lives.
It's bad enough what media some adults consume but when it comes to children it's twice as concerning, because kids have a special ability to learn that is largely lost later in life. We're only young once, it's incomprehensible to me that someone would knowingly fill their child's brains with junk information.
