We've asked you before not to go on ideological tilt like this. Really, please don't. We'd ban most accounts that do this, but I really don't want to ban yours. Any time one finds oneself typing things like "the Left is congenitally unable" (or "the Right", I don't care) into a Hacker News comment box, it is time to close Hacker News and not post.

Errr, no, this is the first time you've asked me to avoid ideology, something like "the Left is congenitally unable", granted purple prose, but it is being used to discuss a very mainstream view about each side's view of human nature, which is about as fundamental as you can get in discussing them.

That's a VASTLY greater restriction than what you've previously asked of me; I will in the future strictly avoid all political topics on HN. You want my slice of Lisp history, you'll get that.

Heh, my guess is it's the whole "You people are no longer Americans" thing you were trying to get at--like, your fellow citizens who want a different set of (still constitutional) laws are alien invaders that you're ready to go to war on. And that stuff about "sides," like your side vs the other side, when in reality, there's no "side"--we're all Americans, in this together.

Well yeah, if it wasn't constitutional it should be ignored. The courts can't make something constitutional.

No, they can declare that the government shall currently act as if X is constitutional (or not).

They interpret the constitution, not write it.

again you assume that California laws, or even US laws apply everywhere on the planet, they don't - the 2nd amendment is historical curiosity everywhere else

My belief is that you have apples and oranges. Nomadic goat herders are not reliant on the internet. In the US the starvation clock starts running without it. Guns are more effective in the Middle East, but control of the internet is more effective in the US.
