It was embarrassing a year+ ago when much of this technology barely worked at all. If you did not perceive a step change in model capabilities in late 2025, it's possible you are working on problems that are just too hard or not well aligned (e.g., arts and crafts). If you are working on software and need to move the occasional mountain, it's really hard to argue with the capabilities of contemporary models and harne…

Sure it's better. 100x productivity is pure nonsense and there are other claims of this order. Rejecting exaggerated claims doesn't mean that someone is not seeing any value.

One of the things not represented well by the hype cycle is how hype is a moving target. When "ai defenders and hype" assign a number to things, the early numbers can become closer to the later realities.

It's perfectly coherent. For instance; mRNA vaccines changed your life, why are you ignoring it to bloviate about LLMs? How is that coherent? AI has had a much smaller impact on humanity, relatively speaking. Suffice it to say that HN is not well-suited for people obsessing over a pet topic, like you seem to be. Many of us have nothing against LLMs, and are embarrassed by your passionate and fruitless defense of the…

“Bloviate about LLMs” lol our jobs are materially changed significantly by it. Vaccines didn’t change our jobs directly other than a few aspects and my indulgence with that topic reflects it. Did you forget this is a technology forum? In a technology forum where we speak about technology, a new technology significantly changed our way of working - obviously it is expected that people speak about it. I think you are u…

> I think you are unable to cope with AI encroaching your life and you are hiding away from it.

That would be the case if you were doing anything impressive or noteworthy with it. Can you show me your AI magnum opus, or are you also struggling to adopt it?

> And you think people speaking about LLMs are naive or something?

No, just you. Your rhetoric is entirely emotional and relies on authority that you haven't earned as a developer. You've neglected the logical appeal of your argument so I'm laughing at your inability to highlight AI's most influential contributions to humanity. Relative to actual hard-tech, it's a nothingburger sandwich.

Meanwhile, the AI critics got an enormous war chest thanks to Vitalic giving them all his dog coins as a joke that ended up being worth almost a billion to fight against AI.

I don’t make magnum opus. I use it in my daily life. I’m forced to. It’s basically my job.

My job has completely transformed because of AI.

> so I'm laughing at your inability to highlight AI's most influential contributions to humanity

AI recently helped solve open problems in mathematics that would have normally been awarded a Fields medal for.

You think it’s a nothingburger when a fields medalist has said that it is reshaping mathematics, what does that say about your ability to grasp the importance of it?

Yeah, this is nonsense. No one is arguing that AI is useless, but that there is a coordinated marketing campaign hyping it up.

"AI is useless" is a strawman^1 used by HN commenters

The commenters refer to the slightest skepticism or criticisms of "AI" hype as an argument that "AI is useless"

I’ve noticed this too. I’ve seen a ton ai defenders and hype people here. It’s embarrassing.

Ok but none of those articles are remotely interesting. At least if you’re into the science part of computer science — algorithms, data flow, software and hardware architecture, intimate knowledge of the machine — and not just productivitymaxxing to make a messy pile of CRUD widgets that nobody asked for.

It’s all influencer and hustle culture now. The joy of technical creation and understanding has evaporated from the mainstream in mere months. We’re surrounded by AI meat puppets wearing the masks of engineers.

This "Fields medalist" work is automated proof-checking. Turning the question around, then - what does it say about you to worship pushbutton smoke-testing?

I don't what your life is like, but I don't salivate with disbelief when various conjectures are disproved. It's quite literally a waste of my time and an insult to my intelligence to read through them, because it's an expected part of the development pipeline for proofs. We see results like this from children and undergraduates, I'm not really blown away by most LLM mathematics.

Got any other examples?

>But there don’t seem to be any contributors, or at least not human ones. I ran every article on the site through Pangram (the AI detector that credibly claims a near-zero false-positive rate). Of the 94 articles, 69% came back flagged as fully AI-generated, with another 28% flagged as partially AI-generated. Only three articles were classified as human-authored. How credible is this credible claim?

Regardless of that claim, here’s a good test for how real this site is - it’s called “The Wire by Acutus”, but try to find a site for “Acutus”. Is it Acutus Medical, a “cardiac arrhythmia management company”, or Acutus Partners, “Expert healthcare consulting for transformative growth strategies that empower healthcare organizations to thrive and succeed”? Neither seem obviously correct, and there are no other good ca…

>but try to find a site for “Acutus”.

Interesting test to the modern marketing theory that something needs a website to be real and tangible these days.

Its certainly worth following up on. Its cool and good to know who is paying someone.

But like, running a news site seems like something everyone is welcome to try and fail at?

My only concern is the idea that AI text has magical properties that can be tested and verified with 99% accuracy.

I think you are unable to cope with the reality changing in front of you. And instead of addressing the changes, you hide behind it and assume others are bots. Are you doing well personally?

I never predicted anything about AI so why are you comparing us like I did?

99.999% confident this is a bot now

No it’s not automated proof checking? It literally closed open problems that mathematicians couldn’t solve. In other words it primarily helped solved the problems that otherwise would be unsolved.

Do you first agree on this?
