At least where I'm at, you can still go cheaper for pizza and burgers. In-N-Out's combo meals start at about $8. If I want to, I can also get 2 big slices of serviceable pizza for a bit less than $10 in a mom & pop shop, and this is in a city that IMO punches well below its weight when it comes to pizza.

What's crazy is that there is a shot in the car where a guy is reading to the driver ! Never have I seen that elsewhere, but what a brilliant idea !

MANY years ago I hopped into a cab in Manhattan and the driver in one smooth gesture pushed the flag down and shoved a paper at me, saying “test me!”

It was a US citizenship exam, I think 50 questions. We went through them a couple of times. I’m not a US citizen myself but I knew them answers and he didn’t know many. But if that was his goal I hope he made it.

In the southeastern US, Yelp is almost negative signal because southerners have legitimately horrible taste.

A lot of rural areas you really just gotta discount the ratings, both on Google maps and yelp.

It's a fun scene, but dear beginners, just eat the ramen. Be curious as usual about all the things. But you do not need to poke at your food and get all contemplative over fast food. I defy anyone to find a salaryman in Tokyo at 7am before work plowing a bowl of ramen (and clearly enjoying it) and also being weird about it.

That’s true in my experience, but Ramen in Japan is actually considerably better. The only good Ramen I ever had in Europe was in Düsseldorf but the owner imports pork from Japan.

Vegan ramen in Uki Green in Warsaw..! Mandatory for me whenever visiting this country.

Can also recommend Ramen Brno in Brno, Czech Republic. :)

I mean, you are not just paying for food. You are paying for someone's time to make your food.

The eating out price shock since 2020 is IMO mostly a result of wage gains in the bottom earners outpacing those earning more.
