The whole manosphere problem shows that with correct leader you can forge your own army.

How does it show that? Do you have any real-life examples of a manosphere leader legitimately challenging an incumbent government apparatus?

Thanks for being a big strong tall sexy garbage welder man from Europe commenting on an US specific article. When women put on scuba gear or touch a arc welder their ovaries explode, killing them instantly. 55lbs also is well known to instantly disable women who do, in fact, labor in physical jobs. The moment a child turns 7 and reaches that weight, women lose the ability to move the child at all, leading to tragic o…

This isn't the best way to use HN. > Be kind. Don't be snarky. Converse curiously; https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

Do you think your comment was any of those things?

Why are you free from the bounds of courtesy, but fall back on them the moment someone responds in kind?

Do you really believe that women cannot arc weld? Do you really believe that women cannot scuba dive? Do you really believe that women cannot lift 25kg or take out the trash?

If you do, then it's rather unkind and incurious to cast half of the human population as so fundamentally incapable, and you should bring evidence to support your assertion.

If you don't actually believe it, then the substance of your comment is unkind snark, no?

Your original comment is just a warmed-over version of "women wouldn't last a day in a real man job"

We've been hearing that repeated ad infinitum as women have continued to prove the assertion wrong.

For the record though, I don't think anyone should do a job that has a 1/15 fatality rate. Men shouldn't be cannon fodder either.

Yeah, not reading a far right nonsense book. I'm a queer person, I think I know what queer theory is.

I don't think you do know what it is, and I don't think being queer inherently imbues you with that knowledge.

Queer Theory is a philosophy (or theoretical framework) about language (as with all postmodernist philosophy). It's not a "study", and while queer people can be a subject, it's not its primary object.

Furthermore, a book written by two liberal scholars is not a "far right nonsense book".

Why do people insist on taking hard positions on topics despite never having read the material?

Postmodernist movements like DEI were never about objective reality — in fact the idea of an objective reality is outright rejected. It doesn't matter if men are being left out of jobs (statistically) — they're [according to the ideology] the eternal benefactors of invisible, omnipresent systemic privilege. This is of course the complete opposite of the ideals of liberalism and the human rights movement, which is why…

> It doesn't matter if men are being left out of jobs (statistically) — they're [according to the ideology] the eternal benefactors of invisible, omnipresent systemic privilege. This implies a contradiction that doesn't exist. Centuries ago, the aristocracy was statistically left out of jobs and also the eternal benefactors of (quite visible!) omnipresent systemic privilege. There are multiple potential reasons for m…

I don't think there's a contradiction here.

I'm not arguing against you, and I think your argument here actually supports mine. My point is epistemological: that the DEI ideological framework is structured in a way that makes it unfalsifiable. I am not saying that men being statistically underrepresented in certain jobs necessarily implies discrimination against them.

> The lopsidedness was driven by huge growth in health care, where women hold nearly 80% of jobs. Over the past 12 months, health care alone added 390,000 jobs, more than in the economy overall, making up for job losses elsewhere. i.e. Nursing jobs mostly go to women not because men can’t do them because “nurses aren’t men”, per our current cultural norms.

Hah, most of the people I know in the field, especially on that end of are desperate to get out of nursing. One was pursing some sort of environmental engineering degree.

The pay looks ok on paper, but the hours are apparently horrendous.

Are you saying this should be acceptable behavior? Am eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

No, that's not at all what I'm saying. Rather, I am pointing out that irony in the hope that men, dismayed by the treatment of men in certain professions, but find within themselves the empathy to appreciate what women go through and to adjust their behavior accordingly.

So male nurses should put up with toxic behavior so they can learn “empathy” and adjust their behavior. Sounds sociopathic, don't you think?

I feel that you are deliberately misinterpreting what I said in an effort to fit your own agenda. I never said anyone should put up with toxic behavior. What I said is that men should stop being toxic. That's what "adjust their behavior" means.

Academic achievement isn't rewarded socially for boys except a select core group. Therefore you don't get as much effort on boys who aren't in that core. Knock on effects could continue through the education system to the working world. Also there is certainly a world right now that says, oh your a man? Life is pretty grand to be a man - especially if you are a certain social economic class. There is some truth to th…

In the US, there is (and has been) a pretty solid route from academic achievement to high incomes, and from there, higher incomes leads to larger selection of potential mates. I don’t see how boys are not rewarded socially for academic achievement. If anything, men have lower physical attractiveness standards, so men are more rewarded than women for the same amount of academic achievement.

I believe your referring to the exception and not the rule.

Yep. A bunch of unemployed and "unempowered" men sitting around leads to them thinking things like: "Maybe we shouldn't be so cooperative anymore."

was the guy who recently torched a warehouse not a threat?

To be fair your message sounded provocative and it came through as suggesting that to me too. But i guess this is the problem with text, not easy to deliver the tone
