Not comparable at all. I’m not afraid of AI, thinks it’s a lot of marketting on OpenAIs part, but climate change is a trend not something you don’t see one day and then the next day everything’s different.
Unfortunately, with AI things are different. By the time humans notice a real problem, we may be months if not hours away from death.

#106The call to "Pause AI dev!" reminds me of the COVID-era call to "flatten the curve!". It sounds reasonable, and if it was possible to do, might be effective. But it's absolutely not possible after a certain point, and that point is past. The people who don't realize that just look silly, or they have an agenda.
The reality is the cat is out of the bag in so many ways, particularly if you’re a bad actor LLAMA models are available to you. It’s already possible to just create infinite propaganda/spam now. What would 6 months possibly solve?

There are two conflicting requirements- solve climate change without anybody losing any money. When climate change is strongly correlated with consumption that's difficult.
