The local supermarket sells whole roasted chickens that you can buy hot and ready to eat. The ones that don't sell are deboned and shredded and used for chicken salad, barbeque "pulled" chicken, etc.
And these roasted chickens were previously on the shelves as raw whole chicken that was pulled and cooked when they hit their “sell by” date.
Depends on the grocery chain, but many places use separate stock for them.
