The author misunderstands just how much people care about screen size and completely misses the point of a watch. Choice is not confusing in that product category - people want something PERSONAL and that isn't likely to be the exact same thing their friends are wearing.

I agree with the first point about being defensive towards samsung. It's well known in marketing that the Alpha brand never acknowledges the beta brand... even implicitly. For instance, Pepsi did a taste test against Coke. But no Coke commercials ever acknowledge that Pepsi even existed. Coke commercials are always about their brand.

However, I disagree about the phone size. They needed a bigger phone. Steve Jobs said "No one is going to buy a big phone" but he also was known to change his mind. Apple internally had documented that they were loosing sales by not having a big phone.

I remember when Steve gave an interview and said that nobody wanted to watch movies on an iPod. The next iPod came out with video playback, and films came to the iTunes Store.

Well, Apple is known for referencing Microsoft and PCs in its keynotes. I recall many references to competitors over the years. Even their commercials, with references to Intel and PCs.
